York South Carolina Real Estate
The City of York, located in the western part of York County, S.C. is on the threshold of significant change which has not been experienced in the past 20 years. Much of this change is being driven by the rapid growth in the Charlotte Metro Area that has become the dominant urban, transportation, and economic hub of the Carolinas. The area was home to the Catawba Indians when Scotch-Irish settlers arrived in the mid-1700s to establish farms. By 1780 two Revolutionary War battles were fought in this area. Today York's rich heritage and architectural features can be seen by visiting the Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Historic Congress Street houses specialty shops, theaters and restaurants. Small town hospitality makes York a charming place to live. Each August, the town celebrates the end of summer with Summerfest, which attracts more than 50,000 visitors each year. Summerfest is recognized as the largest one-day festival in South Carolina. York enjoys an intimate character of a small friendly community with a strong historic core and a traditional lifestyle offering a desirable alternative to life in the larger metro areas.
